Kirriemuir
Undoubtedly the most popular hotel in Kirriemuir, The Airlie Arms Hotel nestles quietly right in the centre of this rather quaint, picturesque and vibrant Angus town, best known both as the 'Little Red Town' in view of the very predominant and attractive red brick stonework of many of the local houses and properties - and as the birthplace of J M Barrie and hence Peter Pan.
Lovely small locally owned shops predominate - no big high street shop or supermarket culture here. Small town charm and character rule!
And whilst the town is rightly proud of its famous son, JM Barrie, Kirriemuir hotels benefit from a surprisingly large variety of great local interest and pursuits, most notable being
- The old Town house, dating back to 1604 and home of Kirriemuir Museum
- Kirriemuir Aviation museum, featuring a superb collection of museums, artefacts, models and pictures dating relating to military aviation and the RAF in particular.
- The Camera Obscura in Kirriemuir, one of only three in Scotland , and a must visit
- The neighbouring and scenically stunning Angus Glens, providing some of the most outstanding mixed walking opportunities, and also sensational shooting and stalking, anywhere in Scotland.
- The James Braid designed local Kirriemuir Golf Course - a real gem. Not to mention some rather well known local area courses such as Carnoustie and the excellent open championship qualifiers at Monifeith, Panmure and Downfield. Golf breaks in Scotland at their very best can be enjoyed at the Airlie Arms.
